SPM Mathematics Tips 2016

- Answer all 5 questions in Paper 2 Section B if, and only if you have extra time as the examiner will chose 4 with he highest marks.
- Show all workings as marks will be given for correct working even if the final answer is wrong.
- Round up to at least 4 significant figures for final answers with infinite decimal places.
- For questions involving Pi, read the instruction and use the right Pi value (22/7 or 3.142) as it might make a difference in the final answer.
DON’T
- Don’t skip important workings or make assumptions that the working must be known. Show ALL workings relevant to achieving the answer.
- Don’t forget to label the axis in graphs, and make sure to provide titles for graphs or charts.
- Do miss out the values or units in your final answers. Example: metres, kilometres, cm.
MUST STUDY
- The Straight Line
- y = mx + c
- c is the point where the line touches the y-axis (y-intercept)
- Lines and Planes in 3-Dimensions
- Use Trigonometry Rule
- sin (θ) = opposite side / longest side
- cos (θ) = adjacent side / longest side
- tan (θ) = opposite side / adjacent side
- Matrices
- Part a) usually asks to solve problems involving inverse matrix.
- Part b) usually asks to solve linear equations with matrices
